Production Plus was thrilled to help National Geographic with exhibit fabrication during their presence at Austin’s annual South by Southwest (SXSW), an annual festival featuring interactive media, film and music. National Geographic is known around the world as one of the greatest storytellers of all time, we were honored to help them tell their story at the Nat Geo Further Basecamp event, as they continue to promote science, education and inspiration. Nat Geo’s Further Basecamp delivered standing room only sessions and events with Nat Geo talent.
Production Plus completely rebranded the Vulcan Gas Company music venue for the SXSW Nat Geo Further Basecamp event, creating walk through exhibits with wall to wall stunning scenic displays, booths and stages with large video screens combined with amazing audio sound. We incorporated the National Geographic logo and familiar yellow border in life-size displays, allowing participants to get a picture inside the famous yellow frame.
We constructed a large wall display with a “Genius” chalkboard, incorporated with a robotic arm that would squiggle out a portrait received by users tweeting head shots of themselves. We provided video shots which allowed participants to be featured in their own Nat Geo spot. Production Plus developed virtual and augmented reality apps for the Nat Geo Further Basecamp event, which would deliver Einstein’s theories, mathematical equations and more.
The President and CEO of the National Geographic Society, Gary Knell, recalled the experience as a “fantastic few days”, stating that the show proved once again that National Geographic is a global leader in storytelling and they continue to inspire others to take action. National Geographic began telling stories in print, with an unfaltering determination to never stop learning they embrace advancements in technology and strive to help people understand how to use technology to tell their stories.
The festival was a successful hub of activity with live bands, DJs, comedians, a cyborg, cast members from HBO’s VEEP, breakout sessions and keynote addresses. The augmented reality station and the Einstein’s interactive chalkboard were wildly popular, with crowds wrapped around the block waiting to get in.
Production Plus extremely enjoyed working with and assisting the National Geographic Society in its endeavor to enlighten people to the technology available today by inspiring them with amazing and interactive displays. We offer total event solutions including audio visual services, spectacular scenic construction displays and exceptional exhibit fabrication.
